My goodness, time flies in a busy school!
Here it is February and most grades are working on their second Project Based Learning research. I love the role that I play in PBLs: I usually help kick-off the subject/topic and facilitate the applicable research. So far this month, students from various grades have researched the white/chocolate milk debate in school lunches, Susan B. Anthony and colonial jobs for their PBLs. Stay tuned for many other interesting research projects.
Six Flags Read to Succeed Program Update: Students can earn a free ticket to Six Flags by reading for 6 hours. Reading does not have to take place at one time, but can be split up. Reading logs are in the Media Center. One log per child; only one ticket per child, no matter how long you read. All forms are due to me February 20 so the forms can be processed. If you are not finished by February 20, please see me. Let's beat last year's record of approx. 100 students! Right now, 41 students have turned in their forms; Ms. May's second grade class leading with 9 students who turned in their completed forms. Those who earn free Six Flags tickets will receive them around May 15th.
Parents, do your children know their student number (also known as their lunch number) and birthdate? If so, a world of knowledge awaits them through the Fulton County School Launchpad. Enter http://launchpad.classlink.com/fcs in your browser; or search for fulton county schools launchpad in a search engine. Great resources such as Tumblebooks, FreedomFlix, Britannica Elementary, DK FindOut!, and many others are available to them.
